What should an expatriate or foreign employee do once his employment contract in Vietnam is terminated?

Upon the termination of employment contract or completion of the assignment, or for any other reasons that the foreign employee leaves Vietnam, the employee should do the following:

  • Surrender his/her work permit
  • Finalise and pay his personal income tax applicable to his/her taxable income
  • He/she will have the right to buy foreign currency and remit his/her legitimate income back home via any commercial bank operating in Vietnam.
