- Date: 15.07.2010

The Ordinance on Residential Housing allows foreigners to own houses during the period of investment. Rights in land may also be transferred during this period. On 5 July 1994, the Prime Minister issued Decree 61/CPon the buying, selling and trading of residential properties which entitles foreigners residing in Vietnam to purchase residential properties from state-owned real estate agents. Further, the Prime Ministerial Decree 60/CPof the same date requires a foreigner to dispose of his ownership in Vietnam within 90 days after his residence has terminated, failing which the certificate of ownership will lapse and the title of the property will revert to the State of Vietnam. These provisions are now subject to the restrictions imposed by the Civil Code
