Are there any restrictions on the employment of foreign expatriates or foreign workers in Vietnam?

  • FAQ: VIETNAM
  • Date: 15.07.2010

All employers have the right to employ foreign nationals to fill managerial or high-level posts that Vietnamese staff are unable to fill. However, the Labour Code   does not restrict the type of skills that may be brought in nor the number of foreign staff except that the foreign nationals must be of at least engineer level or the equivalent (university graduate), or be a master craftsmen of traditional craftwork. Where foreign nationals are employed, the employer is obligated to train its Vietnamese employees to replace these expatriates.
